Getting started with Sowfund is quick and easy. Fill out a short application with a few basic details so we can confirm your mission is real and focused on helping others. Our team reviews applications within 2–4 business days. Once approved, you can start receiving donations and managing your funds.
Can our ministry team share a Sowfund account?
Yes, a ministry team can share a Sowfund account. However, for tax and legal purposes, the account must be registered under one individual’s name.
We’re also working on a more streamlined solution that will allow multiple missionaries to be connected to a single shared account in the future.
How do I receive my funds?

Am I immediately notified when someone gives to me?
Yes! By default, you’ll receive notifications for every new and recurring donation. If you’d prefer not to get alerts, you can easily turn them off or adjust your notification settings anytime.
Can my donors write checks to me?
No — since Sowfund is a fully online platform, we’re not able to accept paper checks. However, donors can give easily through credit cards, debit cards, bank transfers, Apple Pay, and Cash App, making online giving simple and convenient.
Can people donate from outside the United States?
Yes! Sowfund supports international donations from anywhere in the world. Donors can give securely online using global payment options. Processing fees for international transactions may vary — please refer to our payment processing page for the most up-to-date details on costs.
Does Sowfund have any fees?
It depends on your plan — Sowfund charges a 4% service fee only on the Free plan. Starter and Pro plans have no Sowfund service fees. All plans have lower-than-usual payment processing fees of 2.5% + 30¢ per transaction that cover the cost of securely processing credit card payments through our payment processor.

What's the minimum withdrawal amount?
The minimum withdrawal is $100 USD. This helps reduce processing costs and ensures efficient transfers to your bank account.
Is there a monthly cap on how much I can receive through Sowfund?
It depends on your plan. With the Free plan ($0/month), you can receive up to $250 per month. With the Starter plan ($12-14/month), you can receive up to $750 per month. With the Premium plan ($19-24/month), there is no limit—you can receive unlimited donations.
Are donors issued receipts after making a donation?
Yes! Every donation made through Sowfund automatically generates an instant receipt sent directly to the donor’s email.
Will my donors receive an end-of-year tax contribution statement?
Yes! Each January, donors receive an end-of-year contribution statement by email. Donors can also access their full giving history anytime through their Sowfund account.
What tax information should missionaries know?
Sowfund cannot provide tax advice, but here are a few key points to keep in mind:
- You’ll receive a 1099 form at the start of next year for your total income through Sowfund.
- Keep records of business-related expenses—many may be deductible.
- Expect to pay around 15% in self-employment tax (Social Security) after deductions.
- You may also owe federal income tax, depending on your family situation and deductions.
